Carpet Cleaning Process

First Step: Inspection

First, we inspect the carpet to make notes of areas that need spot treatment and to also get an overview of the condition of the carpet. The customer is made aware of the findings and shown the areas of concern. Please point out any areas that you are aware of so that we can be attentive to any spots that do not show, such as where a pet may have had an accident or maybe a child got sick on the floor.

Second Step: Pre-Treat

After the pre-inspection, the entire carpeted area is treated with a pre-spray that loosens the soils. The pre-spray is further activated by heat during the Rinse and Extraction process that follows next. Any spots and stained areas are also pre-treated to allow them time to break down and come out in the Rinse and Extraction process.

Third Step, Part A: Rinse and Extraction

This is the step that most people think of when they have their carpet cleaned by a professional. Using hot water or steam, depending on the carpets’ condition and type, the carpet is rinsed and the dirty water is extracted and removed from the home. The high pressure rinse ensures that the deep down soils are loosened. The extreme vacuuming removes the loosened soils from the carpet and the home. Blue Ribbon Floor Care uses a very powerful Truck-mounted System to ensure that the best possible cleaning is done.

This Method is Recommended by Most Carpet Manufacturers, Such As:

  • Beau lieu
  • Laura Ashley
  • Mohawk
  • Shaw
  • Stain master Carpet

Most of these manufacturers also recommend that stain guards be reapplied at the time of cleaning.

Third Step, Part B: pH Balancing

This part is very important and is often ignored by both the carpet cleaner and the consumer. When the carpets are having the Rinse and Extraction process, the carpets must be neutralized. This process ensures that the carpet is not “sticky”. “Sticky carpets” hold onto soils; this is why you may have seen or heard of cleaned carpets re-soiling, or getting dirty very quickly. Adhered soil makes vacuuming less effective, allowing the carpets to get dirty faster. At Blue Ribbon Floor Care we insure that the Rinse and Extraction method is done correctly to provide the clean that one expects when paying for a professional job to be done.

Fourth Step: Fabric Protector (optional)

Fabric protector is added to the carpet. This step is recommended to help protect the carpet from re-soiling quickly and helps to resist stains from setting in. Please see the Fabric Protector page here for more details.

Fifth Step: Carpet Grooming

At Blue Ribbon Floor Care, we groom the carpet as our final step. This step has many benefits over the “alligator teeth” that are seen after most carpet cleaners are done. Grooming the carpet allows for the carpet to appear fluffy, dry faster and, when fabric protector is applied, allows it to be spread evenly and penetrate deeply into the fibers.

Sixth Step: Your Inspection of the Work

Our last step is to walk with the customer to inspect the job and to ensure that your expectations were met. We will show you the areas that where noted in the first step above to show the difference that our professional cleaning gives.
